Meal Services-Volunteers on Wheels
  • Meals on Wheels-Hot:
    Delivered by friendly volunteers at noontime Monday through Friday throughout the Town of Caledon, the Village of Orangeville and areas of rural Dufferin. Service can be requested for each day of the week or for as little as one day of the week. Notification by 9:30a.m. can initiate service and/or cancel service for the day if the client needs to go out. Meal service can be arranged for long-term or for a short-term period while recovering from illness or when family is away. Volunteers provide a short visit and a daily safety check.
  • Meals on Wheels-Frozen:
    Can be purchased as a complete meal (soup/entree/dessert) $4.75 or Entree only $3.50. All meals are low salt/low fat - special dietary meals (low sodium-renal/vegetarian/gluten-free. Ordered in bulk and delivered on a bi-monthly schedule. Gift packages of frozen meals and/or gift certificates for meals can be purchased as a welcome home from hospital or a convalescing gift. Also a great 'Survival Package' for new Moms.
  • Volunteer Visiting-Volunteers on Wheels:
    Volunteer Visitors act as a support companion providing in-home visits. They may, if arranged, accompany the client to shopping, an appointment or to a social outing. Volunteer Visitors are carefully screened and specifically partnered to a client with like interests. Volunteer Visitors trained under the Home Support Exercise Program can also assist the client with a gentle exercise program as a component of the visit. This is a no fee service.
  • Telechat Service:
    Volunteers provide telephone contact for friendly conversation and safety assurance. Telephone calls are scheduled regularly on a long-term or temporary basis. No fee service. For more information click here on Telechat Service.
  • Congregate Dining-Wheels to Meals:
    Group social lunches offer an opportunity to meet new friends and renew acquaintances while enjoying a nutritious meal. Entertainment and guest speakers. Out-trips for lunch, sightseeing and entertainment. Fee is based on individual event.
  • Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP)-
    SMILES on Wheels:

    This program is currently funded by the United Way of Peel Region and is designed for : Simple Movement to enhance Independent Living for the Elderly and Disabled. Volunteer Visitors trained in the Home Support Exercise Program visit clients in-home to direct and assist with specific exercises to improve movement, flexibility, strength and balance. (no fee) This program also offers Exercise Support twice weekly at the Caledon East Community Complex as well as each of the Peel Living Seniors' apartment buildings in the Town of Caledon. ($1.00 per session)
