Volunteers play a vital role in all of the services offered by the Caledon Meals on Wheels Agency. If you would like to assist your neighbours, friends and people in your community, we would be delighted to have you join our volunteer team. Time commitments are flexible and can be arranged to accommodate your schedule. Agency policy requires all volunteers to obtain police checks. Volunteers are offered training and opportunities to attend service related workshops. Please contact us for more information. Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated.
Meal Delivery -
Volunteer drivers deliver hot meals at noontime Monday through Friday throughout the Town of Caledon, areas of rural Dufferin and in the Village of Orangeville. Volunteer commitment is flexible and can be as often as once a week or as little as once a month. The agency offers mileage reimbursement to volunteer drivers. Meal delivery volunteers help to brighten the day of our clients with a smile, a short visit and a daily security check.
In-Home Visiting -
Volunteer Visitors act as a support companion providing in-home visits on a regular basis. Volunteers may accompany the client to shopping, medical appointments and social outings. Volunteer Visitors are offered training and workshop opportunities to enhance skills. Volunteers can be trained for the Home Support Exercise Program to assist their visiting client with a gentle exercise program as a compliment to the visit.
Security Checks -
Volunteers provide telephone contact for friendly conversation and safety assurance. Telephone calls are scheduled regularly on a long-term or temporary basis.
Congregate Dining -
Volunteers assist at social luncheons, helping with set-up, food preparation and serving. Volunteers frequently accompany their visiting client to these events or on group outings. These social occasions provide an opportunity for clients to make friends and establish new relationships.
Cards on Wheels -
Volunteers assist with the set-up and lunch preparation of the parties, which are held on a monthly basis. Volunteers may also join in the afternoon card activities. This program offers a nutritious lunch, mental stimulation and social interaction.
SMILES on Wheels -
As well as the in-home individual Home Support Exercise Program provided by volunteer visitors, the agency offers a group exercise program in each of the 6 seniors' apartment buildings in the Town of Caledon. Volunteers would assist the Coordinator of the program in conducting the various exercises and assisting with individual clients in the group.
